Deputy legislative speaker Johnny Chiang led a cross-party delegation of lawmakers to Japan Sunday morning. The group will be attending the annual conference of the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union. This is the first overseas trip by lawmakers from the new legislature.(STOP)

This time they will be holding the 52nd conference. It will also be the first in-person conference after the pandemic in 2020, and the 15th time that Japan is hosting the event. The main topic at this annual meeting is climate change, especially the large-scale disasters it causes, and how they can be prevented and reduced.

The 52nd APPU conference will be held from March 11 to 14 in Tokyo. In addition to attending the meeting, the Taiwan delegation will visit officials from Japan’s major political parties, including the Liberal Democratic Party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, the Democratic Party for the People, and the Japan Innovation Party. The group hopes to exchange views on trade, culture, economy, security and other issues with their Japanese counterparts to further deepen Taiwan-Japan relations.
