Entering as the top qualifier, Taiwan’s “pommel horse prince” Lee Chih-kai dazzled in the finals of the FIG World Cup in Baku. His signature Thomas Flair stole the show.

Lee’s routine had a difficulty rating of 6.5. His graceful performance and perfect landing earned him an execution score of 8.9.

With a combined score of 15.4, Lee tied for gold with U.S. gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik. Taiwan’s Shiao Yu-jan also excelled in the event.

With a difficulty score of 6.4 and an execution of 8.9, Shiao earned a score of 15.3, bagging a bronze. Both Lee and Shiao earned points toward Olympic qualification.

On social media, Lee thanked his supporters, saying that his monthlong journey abroad had been fruitful.

In the horizontal bar final, Taiwan’s Tang Chia-hung finished fifth. With that, he booked his place in the Paris Olympics, with a total of 76 points from Baku and his past two competitions. Tang is competing after an Achilles tendon injury last year. So far he is the only Taiwanese gymnast to qualify for this year’s Olympics.
