Taiwan Railway has teamed up with Japanese bento specialist Awajiya to create a lunch box like no other. Proceeds will go to earthquake victims. The meal box comes in an earthenware jar and is packed with foods made with Hualien ingredients. Only 200 meals will be on sale on Friday and Saturday at Taipei Main Station.

If you can, you can donate money. If you can’t, you can buy agricultural products from Hualien. Buy agricultural goods by local fishers and farmers to help out.

The meal inside is a treat for the senses. Rice from Fuli and red quinoa come together as a side dish to a mahi mahi fillet. There’s also plum chicken, chayote greens and other ingredients all originating in Hualien, packing each bite with the flavors of the county. The lunch boxes will be on sale for two days, with just 200 meals up for grabs. The meals were crafted by Taiwan Railway in collaboration Japanese bento house Awajiya, which has been in operation for more than 100 years. Part of the proceeds of these lunches will go toward providing earthquake relief for Hualien.
