Taiwan shares hit a new milestone just after the opening of the market on Friday. The Taiex soared past the 20,000-point mark to hit 20,065 points, to the surprise and delight of small investors. The index then fluctuated violently to shed 400 points, ending the day closing up 91 points at 19,785. So is there a chance that the index will climb over 20,000 points again? Let’s hear from an analyst.

I think that it is possible given the current trends. Global funds are pouring into AI-related stocks. For every NT$1 that TSMC stocks gain, the index gains about 8 points. So in reality, TSMC has contributed 1,500 points to this rally.

TSMC shares gained NT$36 in the morning’s trading session to hit NT$796, a new high. Toward the end of the session, a transaction of 5.5 million shares made it drop down to close at NT$784. Over the past two days, daily turnover in the Taiwan stock exchange has exceeded NT$500 billion. Institutional investors have bought a net NT$40.6 billion.
