Under the influence of a strong, continental cold air mass, the temperature on Huhuanshan dropped down to 0.6 degrees early Sunday morning. Visitors to nearby Wuling, at 3,275 meters above sea level, were overjoyed to see sleet and snowflakes falling from the sky.

Meanwhile, the north peak of Yushan recorded minus 2.3 degrees. At 8:05 a.m., sleet began to accumulate around Yushan weather station leading to 1 centimeter of snowfall. At Shei-Pa National Park to the north, sleet began to fall around the 369 Campground, which is located at 3,150 meters above sea level. The trail leading to Xueshan’s main peak was iced over, forcing hikers to use snow gear.
