The pop band Mayday has announced that it would donate NT$5 million for the reconstruction of Hualien. What’s more, the band surprised fans with a post on social media over the weekend that says: "Next stop: Hualien! See you there!" Local business owners were moved and said this has been the most exciting news during a depressing time.

Ashin
Mayday, Lead singer
These days we in Taipei have all felt the earthquakes in Hualien. I truly hope that everyone who knows Mayday could be healthy, safe and sound.

Hualien resident
We welcome them, and we in Hualien are greatly encouraged; our faith is boosted.

Hualien hotel operator
There are about 10 hotels that are still closed for repairs, so for the overall tourism industry of Hualien, everyone is hurt. That’s why I am really grateful to Mayday.

The earthquake has damaged many hotels in Hualien, leaving some of them temporarily closed. And those hotels that can maintain normal operation have been receiving cancelation requests from tourists who had booked rooms in advance. However, Mayday’s latest gesture has given business operators in Hualien a glimmer of hope that tourism would be revived.
