The Ministry of Economic Affairs is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its Eastern Taiwan Industrial Technology Service Center. The center has made outstanding achievements in providing technological consultative assistance to local companies and in promoting local specialty products. The ministry is now launching a sizeable plan to boost the economy of Hualien and Taitung through industrial innovation. It’s also trying to get visitors back to the east coast with a campaign launched in collaboration with tech firms and online sports platforms. At the announcement ceremony, a cycling influencer shared her experiences traveling in the east coast.

Its many accomplishments include providing technological consultative assistance for businesses more than 2,700 times and promoting more than 1,500 products from Eastern Taiwan. And a big gift is on its way. The ministry has announced more than NT$500 million in funding over the next four years, to promote industrial innovation along the east coast.

We’ve doubled the budget, to push forward the initiative. We hope to strengthen industry in Eastern Taiwan, harnessing smart technologies than can help companies with innovation. That in turn makes firms more competitive technologically, creating also more job opportunities.

Hualien’s tourism industry suffered a big blow after a strong earthquake on April 3. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has stepped in to help revitalize the sector. It has partnered with two major online sports platforms, connected with several scientific research firms and offered guidance to local specialty shops to launch a campaign focused on the East Rift Valley across Hualien and Taitung, in hopes of attracting travelers to the area.

We’re collaborating with the two biggest online platforms for hiking and biking to promote our campaign in the Longitudinal Valley in Hualien and Taitung. There’s ten hiking trails and ten cycling routes to follow, with big prizes to encourage the people of Taiwan to visit Hualien and Taitung.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs is launching new policies to boost the competitiveness of local industry and invite people from all over to come and enjoy the beauty of Eastern Taiwan.
