Uber Eats’ parent company Uber Technologies is set to buy Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda operations in Taiwan for US$950 million. That’s about NT$30 billion. The transaction is expected to bring Uber about NT$18.8 billion in business opportunities a year.

The acquisition would give Uber Eats an 80% share of the market but is yet to be approved by the Fair Trade Commission. Once the relevant documents are submitted, the plan will be inspected on four key metrics, and a decision could be announced as early as 30 days from the submission date. The commission says it plans to hold hearings to listen to the opinions of consumers and restaurants that could be affected.
